Ørsted, the Danish power company, has completed the 367MW Western Trail wind project in Wilbarger and Baylor counties, Texas.
The wind project is reported to be Ørsted's largest onshore wind project, bringing the company's total capacity in operation to more than 2.8GW of wind, solar and battery storage.
The majority of the power generated by the Western Trail wind farm is backed by long-term power purchase agreements with PepsiCo, Hormel Foods and Nucor.
PepsiCo and Hormel Foods are also expected to purchase power from the Haystack Wind project in Southwest Power Pool (SPP), which is set to begin operations later this year.
Last December, Ørsted made the final investment decision for the 430MW Old 300 Solar Energy Center in Fort Bend County, Texas. The facility, which covers 2,800 acres of land, is expected to come online in the second quarter of 2022.
Furthermore, the company announced plans to achieve almost 50GW of installed renewable energy by 2030.
