Marubeni, Sojitz and Pertamina, developers of the Jawa1 gas-fired power plant in Indonesia, have reached commercial operations at the 1.76GW facility in  Cilamaya, West Java.
The construction of the power plant, which was ongoing since December 2018, is part of a larger US$1.8bn gas-to-power initiative that also covers a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU).
Jawa1, which is a combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) plant that will run on liquefied natural gas (LNG), already has in place a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Persero. The company will receive all of Jawa1's power output, enough to supply 4.3 million homes.
This is Asia's first gas-to-power plant with combined power generation. According to Sojitz, its gas-associated units will reduce carbon emissions by 3.3 million tonnes per year.
