Sizewell C, a nuclear power plant under development by EDF Energy, has received planning approval from the UK government. The facility will be built next to the existing Sizewell B, operational since 1995, in Suffolk.
The approval process, which began in 2012, involved 10,000 local citizens and promoted four public consultation rounds.
China General Nuclear Power Group (CGN) was initially involved in Sizewell C, but current UK concerns with Chinese influence in sensitive assets might lead to CGN being distanced from the project.
Sizewell C will have a capacity of 3.2GW through the installation of two European Pressurised Reactors (EPR). Earlier this year, the Johnson administration invested £100m in the project.
Total investment is calculated to sum up to £20bn.
