Global Power Generation (GPG) has inaugurated the first utility-scale hybrid solar and energy storage project in Western Australia. Named Cunderdin, the facility has a 128MW solar power capacity and a 55MW/220MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) capacity.
Equipped with over 220,000 solar panels, Cunderdin will be able to produce enough renewable energy to meet the needs of 51,000 homes, avoiding the emission of 140,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year.
The asset's BESS aspect will also provide four hours of power when there is no sunlight.
An investment of over €170m and approximately 100 jobs were required for Cunderdin's completion.
