Works for the construction of El-Dabaa’s third unit have begun in Cairo, Egypt, after a construction licence was issued on 29 March. El-Dabaa is the country’s first nuclear power plant, with a planned capacity of 4.8GW, and construction work is carried out by Rosatom.
Each of El-Dabaa’s four units will have a capacity of 1.2GW and feature generation III+ VVER-1200 pressurised water reactors, a technology that is already in use by four operational facilities in Russia.
Construction for Unit 1 and 2 started in 2022. Completion of works is expected in 2028.
