Brazil state-owned oil company Petrobras has announced its first renewable hydrogen initiative. The operator intends to invest up to US$16m in the development of this pilot project.
The plant will be built at Petrobras' Vale do Açu gas-fired power plant Alto Rodrigues, a municipality in the Rio Grande do Norte state.
The Alto Rodrigues project, which is jointly developed with SENAI, will be executed by WEG. Operations are scheduled for early 2026.
The hydrogen facility will utilise electricity generated by the 1MWp Alto do Rodrigues solar power plant, to be expanded to 2.5MWp owing to electrolysis demand.
