India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi has laid the foundation stone for the first development phase of the Talabira thermal power plant project. To be constructed in Sambalpur, Odisha, the plant is designed to have a capacity of 2.4GW.
The thermal power project, coal-based ultra super critical pit head, is carried out by NLC India under the country's Ministry of Coal.
According to plan, Talabira will feature three units, each with a generating capacity of 800MW. The completion of the project will require an investment of approximately US$3.25bn.
Talabira's second phase, valued at US$960m, will see the installation of 800MW of additional capacity.
