EDF Group's renewables unit has been granted planning consent to begin construction phase of its Longfield project. The solar farm will be built close to Chelmsford in Essex, UK.
The development consent order (DCO) was issued by the UK's Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero.
EDF Renewables submitted the project for assessment in February 2022. This is the first DCO issued to a project by the company in the UK.
Longfield will be a 500MW solar farm which will also include an energy storage element. The facility will be able to power over 96,000 homes per year.
