Ørsted’s construction and operation (COP) plan for the Sunrise Wind offshore wind project has been greenlit by the United States Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM). To be built off the coast of New York, Sunrise Wind is planned to reach a generation capacity of 924MW.
The project is now allowed to enter construction phase later this year. According to Ørsted, Sunrise Wind's construction will generate 800 direct jobs and thousands of indirect jobs.
Once operational, Sunrise Wind will be able to power approximately 600,000 homes in New York.
