Magnora, a renewable energy developer from Norway, has secured environmental approval for a photovoltaic (PV) project in South Africa. The solar plant will have an installed capacity of 260MW and will also feature a utility-scale battery energy storage system (BESS).
According to the company, the authorisation reflects that the project’s most important licences have already been issued.
The PV plant is expected to generate over 600GWh per year after operations start. The BESS facility, meanwhile, will provide over 2,300kWh/kWp of power per year.
Magnora entered the renewables market in South Africa in February 2021 after acquiring a project pipeline of 850MW.
