Sany Group, a Chinese manufacturer of heavy equipment, has announced the installation of what it considers the world's largest onshore wind turbine. With a capacity of 15MW, the turbine was installed in Tongyu, China.
The SI-270150 model is a prototype which will be tested throughout the next year to a assess its reliability. Besides having the largest single-unit capacity, the equipment also features the largest rotor diameter for an onshore turbine in the world: 270 metres, with a turbine blade of 131 metres.
The company expects the turbine to be operational for 25 to 30 years.
