British company Savannah has signed a memorandum of agreement (MoA) with the government of Niger for the installation of two solar power plants in the country. Together, the facilities will have a total capacity of up to 200MW.
The solar plants will be built about 20km away from the southern cities of Maradi and Zinder. Each unit will range from 50 to 100MW of capacity.
Avoiding 260,000 tonnes of carbon emissions per year, the projects will also increase power generation connected to the grid by more than 20%.
With government approval expected in 2024, start-up should be reached between 2025 and 2026.
