On 30 August, the Latvian government, through an official statement by Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš, granted the Skulte LNG terminal status of object of national interest. The government support will allow the licensing process to go smoother.
The terminal, to be built 2.5km off the coast of the Skulte port, will feature a floating regasification unit (FRU) that will be connected to the Inčukalns underground gas storage (UGS)  facility through a 34km pipeline.
Virši has already closed a deal for the acquisition of a 20% stake in the project.
Developers anticipates that Skulte’s construction could last 16 months.
