Civil works have begun for the CP2 liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in Louisiana, United States. The mobilisation takes place after Venture Global received final approvals from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and non-FTA export authorisation from the Department of Energy.
The CP2 LNG terminal is planned to be able to produce up to 20 million metric tonnes per annum (mtpa) in Cameron Parish, with a possible ramp up once operational. The proposed project will include 18 liquefaction blocks.
Venture Global already had significant off-site work underway on CP2, stating that the initiative is one of the most advanced LNG export projects under development in the United States.
First liquefaction should take place in 2027. Venture Global expects CP2 LNG to generate 3,000 new jobs in Louisiana and provide over US$4bn in local property taxes during its service life.
