German transmission system operator 50Hertz has granted the Ostwind 4 transmission project to a consortium formed by GE Vernova and Drydocks World. Both companies will be responsible for the design, construction and commissioning of a 2GW high-voltage direct-current (HVDC) transmission line that will link offshore wind farms to Germany's national grid.
The initiative, the fourth transmission project connecting offshore wind farms near the RĂ¼gen Island to the German grid, will involve the construction of an offshore converter platform and an onshore converter substation.
Ostwind 4 will install the first first 525kV HVDC technology in the German Baltic Sea.
