Saipem has disclosed that the first three topsides (one wellhead production and two riser platforms) for the North Field offshore Qatar have been loaded out from Karimun, the company's fabrication yard in Indonesia.
North Field project is developed by QatarEnergy LNG, which awarded US$3bn engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) contracts to Saipem in 2021.
The contractor is responsible for manufacturing and installing a series of offshore facilities that will extract and transport natural gas from the field. Saipem will also carry out the decommissioning of a pipeline, modifications at existing assets and more.
North Field is the biggest gas field in the world, accounting for 14.2% of global reserves, with estimated 907.3 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) of gas reserves that could last for the next 100 years.
