Sizewell C, a nuclear power station planned to be built in Suffolk, UK, has received a site licence from the government. The permit comes after a decade of waiting from EDF, developer of the project.
EDF intends to execute the Sizewell C's construction following the design of Hinkley Point C, another nuclear project by EDF in Somerset. Sizewell C and Hinkley Point C are the only two nuclear power plants to receive site licences in the UK for the past 35 years.
The company plans to reach a final investment decision (FID) on Sizewell C by the end of the year. It holds a 50% stake in the project, while the remaining 50% are owned by the UK government.
