Brazilian state-owned oil and gas company Petrobras has awarded a US$2.3bn (£1.6bn) contract to construct a new floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) facility located offshore Brazil.
A consortium of South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) and Italy’s Saipem won the contract for the vessel, which will be used to develop the Buzios field approximately 230km off the coast of Rio de Janeiro.
The FPSO will have the capacity to produce 180,000 barrels of crude oil and 7.2m cubic metres of natural gas per day, with a storage capacity of 2m barrels of crude.
Construction of the facility, which will be the eighth FPSO installed in the pre-salt Buzios field, is expected to be complete in the second half of 2024.
