Souther California Edison (SCE) has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Leeward Renewable Energy (LRE). According to the agreement, LRE will supply energy to SCE from its Antelope Valley energy storage project currently under development in California, US.
To be built in Kern County, the 126MW battery energy storage system (BESS) will be LRE's first facility of its kind. Its storage capacity will surpass 500MWh., enough to power 100,000 homes over the course of four hours.
Construction is scheduled to start this year still, with start-up expected in the first quarter of 2024.
