Australia’s Department of Industry, Science and Resources has initiated a competitive procurement process for Phase 3b of the Northern Endeavour decommissioning programme.
Focusing on the Laminaria and Corallina oil and gas fields in the Timor Sea, this final phase involves removing the remaining subsea infrastructure. The appointed lead contractor will manage the disposal and recycling of materials, which includes over 12,000 tonnes of steel, while restoring the surrounding marine environment.
To secure an Australian lead contractor, the government is utilising its pre-qualified defence scrapping panel. This strategy aims to stimulate domestic supply chains and create local subcontracting opportunities across logistics and environmental management.
The 274m floating production, storage and offloading facility was previously removed during the initial phase. Meanwhile, engineering design continues for the permanent plugging and abandonment of nine subsea wells under Phase 2.
