NextEra Energy Transmission subsidiary GridLiance West has officially commenced construction on its US$1bn Core Upgrades project in southern Nevada. The major infrastructure investment will add approximately 1GW of capacity to the local bulk electric grid, accommodating the region's rapidly growing energy demands.
Scheduled for completion by mid-2028, the development focuses on modernising the existing network across Clark and Nye counties. The comprehensive work scope involves deploying 155 miles of new 230kV and 500kV transmission lines, constructing new substations and rebuilding existing facilities.
Operating in partnership with Valley Electric Association, the upgraded transmission infrastructure will alleviate regional grid congestion driven by concentrated renewable generation. By strengthening system resilience, the expanded capacity will unlock further industrial investment and secure long-term electricity affordability for the state.
