The Ministry of Trade and Integration in Kazakhstan has implemented a comprehensive technical regulation for main pipelines transporting liquefied ethane and propane fractions. Approved by the Ministry of Energy, the mandate officially came into effect on 17 August 2026.
The new regulatory framework establishes mandatory safety and operational standards for infrastructure handling vapour pressures exceeding 0.2MPa at a temperature of 20C. It governs the entire asset lifecycle, strictly overseeing initial engineering surveys, construction, daily operations, conservation and eventual decommissioning.
This legislative milestone provides the necessary foundation for constructing a major midstream corridor in the Atyrau region. The planned network will transport resources from Tengizchevroil’s facilities at the Tengiz field, alongside a new gas separation complex, to advanced gas chemical plants within the Karabatan special economic zone.
