RWE and Norges Bank Investment Management have marked a major construction milestone for the Nordseecluster A project with the completion of its two offshore electrical substations. Fabricated at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France, the topsides weigh 1,800 and 2,500 tonnes respectively and are now ready for immediate transport to the installation site 50km north of the German island of Juist.
Scheduled for installation this month, the platforms will serve as the nerve center for the 660 MW phase, bundling power from 44 turbines for transmission to shore. The project team confirmed that inter-array cabling is currently in progress, following the successful installation of extended single monopile foundations last year—a design chosen specifically to reduce steel consumption. Turbine installation remains on track to begin in summer 2026, targeting full commercial operations by early 2027.
