Chiyoda Corporation has secured the front-end engineering design (FEED) contract for the onshore facilities of the North Field West (NFW) project in Ras Laffan. Awarded by QatarEnergy LNG, this scope covers the third expansion phase of the massive North Field development, which was formally announced in early 2024. Chiyoda will execute the work through its local subsidiary, Chiyoda Almana Engineering, continuing a track record of over 100 projects in the region.
The North Field West project is a critical component of Qatar’s strategy to increase national LNG capacity to 142 million tonnes per annum (mtpa). This expansion complements the ongoing North Field East and South projects, which are currently adding a combined 49 mtpa to the grid. By the end of 2030, these cumulative developments are projected to raise Qatar's total hydrocarbon production to 7.25 million barrels of oil equivalent per day.
