Norwegian renewables developer Scatec ASA has signed a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the state-owned Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) for a major solar and battery project. The deal covers 1.95GW of solar capacity and a 3.9GWh battery energy storage system (BESS), which is expected to deliver 6TWh of energy annually. Once completed, the integrated facility and two standalone BESS projects will represent the largest installation of its kind in Africa.
Scatec will serve as the lead developer, handling engineering, procurement, construction and asset management services. The company intends to invite equity partners and anticipates reaching financial close in the second half of 2026. This project adds to Scatec’s significant footprint in Egypt, where its investment portfolio was valued at US$3.6bn last September, encompassing green hydrogen initiatives and other large-scale solar developments.
