PetroVietnam's PV Power subsidiary has announced the start-up of the first of two 812MW liquefied natural gas-fired generation units. The facility is located outside Ho Chi Minh City, within the Nhon Trach power plant.
This is Nhon Trach's third unit, part of a larger project aiming to develop Vietnam's first LNG-powered power plant.
Full operations at Nhon Trach 3 should be reached over the next months. Unit 4 is expected to come online in the next year.
Combined, the two units are calculated to require a total investment of US$1.4bn, of which US$520m have been secured through financing.
