The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has formally signed an intergovernmental agreement supporting the US$25bn Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline. Concurrently, engineering and environmental impact assessments for the Moroccan segment of this midstream infrastructure have been finalised.
Jointly developed by the Moroccan National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines (ONHYM) and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC), the 2,220km route comprises both onshore and offshore sections. The network will feature four compressor stations and two receiving facilities designed to connect into the existing Maghreb-Europe pipeline.
Following the conclusion of the detailed design phase, the project now advances to the environmental permitting stage. A final investment decision (FID) is anticipated by the fourth quarter of 2026. Subject to a two-and-a-half-year construction schedule, initial commercial gas deliveries are targeted for the second quarter of 2031.
