Taiwanese power services provider Star Trade has signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with Synera Renewable Energy Group to procure electricity from the 495MW Formosa 4 offshore wind farm. Under the contract, Star Trade will off-take approximately 180m kWh annually, totalling over 5bn kWh throughout the agreement.
Situated up to 20km off the coast of Miaoli County, the Formosa 4 development will utilise Siemens Gamesa 14MW turbines. The facility secured its establishment permit in 2024 and is scheduled for commercial commissioning by the end of 2028. Once fully operational, the site will generate sufficient low-carbon electricity to supply roughly 500,000 households.
This strategic procurement enables Star Trade to diversify its supply portfolio and progress towards a target of 1GW of contracted capacity by 2028.
