BP has awarded an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract to SLB OneSubsea for a subsea boosting system at the Thunder Horse field in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico.
As the operator with a 75% stake, BP aims to extend production and enhance recovery rates. By deploying a standardised technology approach—previously selected for its Kaskida and Tiber developments—the company ensures faster deployment and improved execution efficiency across its portfolio.
Located 240km south-east of New Orleans, US, the Thunder Horse project is co-owned by ExxonMobil, holding the remaining 25% interest. The massive deepwater facility boasts a reported peak capacity of 250,000b/d of oil alongside 200MMcf/d of natural gas.
Through these strategic investments, BP is optimising overall field performance and maximising its offshore asset lifespans.
