Chariot and Total Eren have created a consortium for the joint development of a utility-scale green hydrogen development in Mauritania. Known as Nour Project, the facility’s feasibility studies are about to begin.
The project is owned by both the developers with an equal share of 50% each. Chariot and Total Eren also look for opportunities in the green hydrogen segment in other African countries as well.
The Nour Project is expected to feature an electrolysis capacity of up to 10GW, being one of Africa’s major green hydrogen plants.
Chariot signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Mauritania’s Ministry of Petroleum, Mines and Energy for the project in September 2021. At the time, estimated investment was calculated at US$3.5bn.
