Rosatom has chosen TSM Enerji to finish the construction of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant in the Mersin province of Turkey. This new engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) agreement replaces a previous contract signed with IC Ictas.
The Akkuyu plant will have a capacity of 4.8GW, featuring four VVER-1200 units and requiring an investment of US$20bn. When complete, the facility will produce enough power to cover 10% of Turkey’s total electricity demand.
Construction work first started in 2018, with activities related to the last unit having begun in July 2022. Over 25,000 workers are part of the project, which is developed by joint venture Akkuyu Nuclear, majority-owned by Russian company Rosatom.
