The Tamega hydropower complex, a 1.158GW facility consisting of three dams – Gouvães (880MW), Alto Tanega (160MW) and Daivões (118MW) – has been officially inaugurated by developer Iberdrola in Vila Real, Portugal.
Tamega, whose investment is calculated at €1.5bn, also has a pumped storage capacity of 40 million kWh, enough to meet the energy demands of 11 million people per day.
The complex will be integrated with a 450MW onshore wind farm complex to create a large-scale hybrid wind-hydro storage development.
