Subsidiaries Shell Nederland and Shell Overseas Investments have confirmed that a final investment decision (FID) has been taken for the Holland Hydrogen I project. The initiative will see the construction of Europe’s largest green hydrogen facility at the Port of Rotterdam.
Holland Hydrogen I’s 200MW electrolyser will be powered by electricity from the Hollandse Kust Noord offshore wind farm.
The plant is planned to have a daily production of up to 60,00kg of green hydrogen. Being transported through the HyTransPort pipeline, the output will replace grey hydrogen at the Shell Energy and Chemicals Park Rotterdam refinery.
Construction of Holland Hydrogen I will begin aiming to start operations in 2025.
