The Wilhelmshaven liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal project, under development by Unipar, has entered construction phase. Wilhelmshaven, which will use a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU), will be the first LNG terminal of Germany after completion.
The developer has stated that the terminal will have a capacity of 7.5 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of LNG (about 8.5% of Germany’s current annual gas demand) and accept the largest carrier.
Along with the country’s Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection, Uniper expects Wilhelmshaven to enter operations during the winter of 2022/2023. It will require a total investment of €65m.
