Environmental Resources Management’s (ERM) ERM Dolphyn and Source Energie have signed a partnership to develop floating offshore wind to green hydrogen projects in the Celtic Sea.
According to a release by ERM, the Crown Estate currently conducts a consultation process for the identification of viable areas for the implementation and licencing of these plants. The partners aim to take part in the process and are already actively engaging with it.
The first of these projects has already been named: Dylan, an offshore wind farm connected to a modular electrolyser on a moored floating foundation (the ERM Dolphyn technology). It will be located approximately 60km off the Pembrokeshire coast, west of Milford Haven.
Turbine numbers and capacities are yet to be disclosed. However, start-up has already been set for 2027-2028, with 2GW of expansions already reported.
Due to its proximity to key demand spots, the Celtic Sea is considered to have a strategic position for offshore energy initiatives.
