Ørsted has signed an agreement to sell its 50% stake in the 1.3GW Hornsea 2 offshore wind farm to AXA IM Alts and Crédit Agricole Assurances, for a total of £3bn.
Currently under construction, the Hornsea 2 offshore wind farm is located 89km off the coast of Yorkshire, covering a 462km² area in the Hornsea zone, UK North Sea.
The wind farm will have 165 wind turbines and, when fully operational, will generate enough clean energy to meet the demands of over 1.3m households.
Once commissioned, Hornsea 2 is expected to become the largest operating offshore wind farm in the world, increasing Ørsted's installed capacity in the UK to more than 6,300MW.
Ørsted will provide 20 years of long-term operations and maintenance (O&M) services from its base in Port Grimsby.
The transaction is expected to close in the second half of 2022, subject to full project commissioning and certain regulatory approvals, including competition authorities.
