The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) has announced the start of commercial operations of Unit 2 of the 5.6GW Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the United Arab Emirates.
In total, the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant will feature four units, each with a capacity of 1.4GW. 
When all four APR-1400 units begin commercial operation, the Barakah Power Station will meet a quarter of the UAE's electricity needs.
Furthermore, it will offset almost 22.4m tons of carbon emissions annually, which is equivalent to taking 4.8m vehicles off the road.
