Alcemi and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) have teamed up to build, construct and operate a 4GW portfolio of energy storage assets in the UK.
The projects, which are now in late-stage development, have projected energy storage capacities ranging from 300MW to 500MW, with storage duration of up to four hours, making them some of the largest energy storage projects in Europe.
They are being built at strategic locations that will support the transmission system by reducing the impact of network constraints. This will help reduce the overall cost of energy for consumers as well as lower the carbon intensity of the UK power sector.
Procurement activities will be primarily led by CIP and will begin later this year, ahead of the commencement of construction on the first project, which is planned to start in 2023.
Further projects are projected to go into development regularly and then energise throughout the second half of this decade.
