Vattenfall has secured the development consent order (DCO) from the UK Government for its 1.8GW Norfolk Vanguard offshore wind farm in the North Sea.
To be built more than 47km from the Norfolk coast, the Norfolk Vanguard offshore wind farm will provide power to 1.95m houses per year. It will also help the UK offset 3m tonnes of CO2 emissions per annum.
With the planning consent in place, the company will begin to engage with the supply chain to prepare for construction, which is expected to be launched next year.
According to the DCO, Vattenfall intends to build and operate up to 200 wind turbine generators for the Norfolk Vanguard offshore wind farm.
Norfolk Vanguard is part of the 3.6GW Norfolk Offshore Wind Zone together with the 1.8GW Norfolk Boreas offshore wind farm, which was granted planning consent by the UK government in December 2021.
The Norfolk Offshore Wind Zone will have the capacity to generate enough green energy to power 3.9m UK homes a year.
Norfolk Vanguard and Norfolk Boreas will support the UK Government’s plan to install 40GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030.
