Clean Energy to receive power generated by the 400MW Discovery Wind project in North Dakota.
Located in McLean County, the wind farm is expected to begin commercial operations in 2025. Its renewable energy will be delivered through the 701.6km long high-voltage direct-current (HVDC) transmission system.
In addition to supplying wind energy west of the Twin Cities, the Discovery Wind project is intended to fulfil a significant part of the renewable energy needs of Great River Energy's power supply transition.
Great River Energy has been operating in McLean County through its 1.1GW Coal Creek Station power plant as well as the western terminus of the HVDC transmission system.
According to the company, the Discovery Wind project is located near an existing power plant, which presents a unique opportunity to interconnect a massive project to the constrained Midwest grid.
