Woodside has announced plans to expand its portfolio of hydrogen production opportunities to the United States, acquiring land in Oklahoma for future development of modular hydrogen facilities, and signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Hyzon Motors.
Woodside has secured a lease and option to acquire 94 acres (38 hectares) of vacant land in Ardmore, Oklahoma to support the future development of its proposed H2OK project. The company is also advancing similar land acquisition opportunities to adapt to the growth market in the United States.
Based on approvals and customer demand, the H2OK concept involves the construction of an initial 290MW facility, which will use electrolysis to produce up to 90 tonnes per day (tpd) of liquid hydrogen for the heavy transportation sector. The location offers the capacity for expansion up to 550MW and 180tpd.
The project expects to make a final investment decision in the second part of 2022, and to begin producing liquid hydrogen in 2025.
