Ørsted has finished the construction of the 227MW Muscle Shoals solar PV project in Colbert County, Alabama.
The  solar project, which was acquired from Longroad Energy in 2020, will support the sustainability goals of Facebook’s data centre in Huntsville, Alabama which has just started operations. It is also expected to increase Ørsted’s operational solar PV capacity up to 647MW.
Located in the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) service, the project has 670,000 solar panels and is supported by a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with TVA.
TVA is a corporate agency that provides electricity for business customers and local power companies in parts of seven south-eastern states in the US.
Furthermore, TVA has already reduced carbon emissions by 63% since 2005 and aims to reduce 70% carbon emissions by 2030. The company goals also include achieving net-zero emissions generation by 2050.
