LNG Canada, a US$17bn major liquefied natural gas (LNG) project currently under construction in Kitimat, British Columbia, on the west coast of Canada, has reached a new stage in going vertical.
Three large pieces of equipment, that are essential for the process of gas liquefaction and weighing approximately 1,000 tonnes, have landed in Kitimat. Furthermore, the production capacity of the first two trains is planned to be 14 million tons per year (mtpa), and it may be expanded to four trains in the future.
The first shipment of LNG is expected to take place before the middle of the next decade. According to Shell, with the help of partial use of hydropower, the project aims to achieve the lowest carbon intensity of all LNG projects in operation today.
The stakeholders of this project are Shell 40%, PETRONAS 25%, PetroChina 15%, Mitsubishi 15%, and KOGAS 5%.
