The Polish government has updated its national nuclear power programme, revising the operational schedules for its first two large-scale facilities. Under the amended framework, the country's inaugural nuclear plant is now expected to commence commercial operations in 2036, a three-year delay from earlier estimates.
Located on the Baltic coast in Pomerania, the initial 3.75GW development will be delivered alongside a US consortium comprising Westinghouse and Bechtel. To support the ongoing preparatory phase, the government has allocated PLN60.2bn (US$15.4bn) in state funding between 2025 and 2030.
Simultaneously, a second nuclear power plant is projected to come online by 2040. With preferred locations identified in central Poland, a competitive dialogue is underway with international suppliers to secure technology and financing. Combined, the projects aim to deliver up to 9GW of generation capacity.
