Canadian explorer ReconAfrica has initiated downhole production testing at the Kavango West 1X discovery in onshore Namibia. Conducted alongside partners NAMCOR and BW Energy, the campaign will evaluate six optimised intervals spanning the Huttenberg and Elandshoek formations to assess hydrocarbon deliverability within the Damara Fold Belt.
To support this upstream appraisal, the operator recently closed an upsized public offering, raising gross proceeds of US$15.6m. These funds will primarily finance an open-hole horizontal sidetrack and a comprehensive production testing programme targeting the primary Huttenberg reservoir.
Following the delivery of specialised perforation equipment, well operations are now advancing under the management of SLB and Halliburton. Upon successful completion, the asset will be temporarily abandoned for future production, paving the way for further drilling across the wider basin.
