ContourGlobal has executed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with Tesla to supply approximately 1TWh of renewable electricity annually. Sourced from the Sterling hybrid solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Arizona, US, the contract secures around 90% of the facility's generation and associated renewable energy certificates for the electric vehicle manufacturer.
The development integrates 509MW of solar photovoltaic capacity with a 360MW BESS. ContourGlobal acquired the asset in December 2024 and subsequently modified its design to align with Tesla's specific requirements. Once operational in 2028, Sterling will stand as the independent power producer's largest renewable energy installation.
Off-site construction commenced in 2025, while on-site work is scheduled to begin later this year. The project holds firm transmission rights into the California Independent System Operator electricity market.
