Chinese state-owned oil company CNOOC has started the first production at Lingshui 17-2, believed to be China’s first significant offshore independent deepwater gas field.
Located in the northern sea of Qiongdongnan Basin in the deepwater area of the South China Sea, the field has proven resources of more than 100bn cubic metres of natural gas.
Operator and 100% owner CNOOC has constructed a new semi-submersible production platform with condensate oil storage capacity and a mooring system.
An underwater production system and subsea pipeline also features at the development, with a total of 11 production wells planned for the project.
A production capacity of 328m cubic feet of natural gas and 6,751 barrels of condensate is expected at its peak in 2022, with a 10-year stable production period.
