Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has announced that it will add a further 600MW of clean energy capacity in 2021.
The increase from 1,013MW to 1,613MW will come through photovoltaic (PV) and concentrated solar power (CSP) projects, including the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park.
The 300MW first stage of the fifth phase of the project is due to be commissioned in July, followed by the commissioning of the world’s tallest CSP tower at 262.44 metres with a capacity of 100MW in September.
By the end of 2021, 200MW will be commissioned from the parabolic trough as part of the 4th phase of the solar park.
Renewable energy will make up 12% of Dubai’s energy mix by the end of the year, with targets set out in the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 to reach 75% by 2050.
