TotalEnergies has begun the construction phase of the Ratawi gas processing plant in Iraq. The facility is part of the operator's US$10bn Gas Growth Integrated Project (GGIP), launched in 2023 with the aim to improve electricity supply in Iraq.
The first development phase of the processing plant will have a capacity of 50 million cubic feet per day (MMcfpd). It will receive gas from three oil fields, with the processed output being directed to 1.5GW of power generation capacity.
Named ArtawiGas25, the processing plant will require a total investment of US$250m for its completion. Once operational by 2025, it will be able to meet the gas demand of nearly 200,000 homes in the Basra region.
