German transmission system operator 50Hertz has granted the Ostwind 4 transmission project to a consortium formed by GE Vernova and Drydocks World. Both companies will be responsible for the design, construction and commissioning of a 2GW high-voltage direct-current (HVDC) transmission line that will link offshore wind farms to Germany's national grid.
The initiative, the fourth transmission project connecting offshore wind farms near the Rügen Island to the German grid, will involve the construction of an offshore converter platform and an onshore converter substation.
Ostwind 4 will install the first first 525kV HVDC technology in the German Baltic Sea.
